"Bura" is the most frequent wind in the Rijeka bay in autumn and winter (November-March), gusts wind can be gale-force (speed more than 150km/h). The signs of "Bura" are whitish clouds over the hills on the north side of the bay, and it usually starts blowing strongly within a short period of time. It usually blows for 3-4 days, and often for a week In Tihi kanal and at the entrance to Bakar bay, "Bura2 often has gale-force, and along the west coast of the bay it has medium force. The most exposed areas are north part of the island of Cres and the area from the port of Rijeka to the entrance to Omišalj bay.
"Jugo" is a less frequent wind than "Bura", mainly over a period October-March, it is often followed by rain and mist. The signs of "Jugo" are dark clouds above Mount Učka and the island of Cres. It can create huge waves on anchorage (higher than 3m).
Southwest winds are rare and do not last for a long time, but they can blow very strongly and can be dangerous for the smaller vessels on anchorage and at berth Brajdica.
